On Saturday, April 1, over 70 UQ, Ochsner Clinical School students participated in Field Day at New Orleans City Park. The annual event was hosted by the Ochsner Medical Student Association (OMSA) with team t-shirts provided to each of the five medical societies (named after our founding physicians): Alton Ochsner, Curtis Tyrone, Edgar Burns, Francis LeJeune, and Guy Caldwell. Each medical society is led by a society head, chosen for expertise in advising and coaching.
Field Day 2023 is part of a year-long, OMSA-run competition called the Society Cup. The event offered many friendly competitions between the medical societies such as volleyball, connect four, an inflatable obstacle course, an inflatable human Hungry Hippos game, and an egg toss!
Another highlight of Field Day was a dunk tank where students had the opportunity to dunk their faculty and program directors. This included Dodd Denton, MD, Assistant Dean, Student Affairs, LeJeune Society head Charles Kantrow, MD, Assistant Dean, Curriculum, Burns Society head David Galarneau, MD, Caldwell Society head Michelle Puzdrakiewicz, MD, and Tyrone Society head Kathy Jo Carstarphen, MD.
The winner of Field Day 2023 was the LeJeune Society. Follow the Society Cup Leaderboard.
