Dr. Pouncey was a superb clinician and teacher who served as the backbone of the pediatric training program at Ochsner. Students and residents with whom she spent countless hours considered her the premier clinical teacher on the faculty. She received numerous awards acknowledging her commitment to excellence, including the Alton Ochsner Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award, the Hurst B. Hatch Memorial Award, and Tulane University School of Medicine Owl Club Awards. In addition to her contributions to medical education she provided outstanding care and was a fierce advocate for her patients and their families. She was truly a generalist in the best sense of the word.
