Residents will participate in minimum 5 hours per week of didactic or scholarly activities.

  • Ochsner Andrews Sports Medicine Institute SMA Residency Grand Rounds – Held monthly, the Resident will research, prepare and present a lecture in the form of a case study or topic review.
  • Ochsner Andrews Sports Medicine Institute SMA Residency Journal Club – Held monthly, a collection of articles from reputable journals in Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine are selected and reviewed among a large group of Physicians, Physical Therapists, Athletic Trainers, and other healthcare professionals in a group discussion format.
  • Ochsner Andrews Sports Medicine Institute Sports Medicine Conference – Held weekly on Thursday mornings, Residents will attend virtual lectures from physicians throughout the Ochsner Health System covering a wide variety of Sports Medicine topics in a traditional lecture format.
  • Cadaver Lab Sessions – Opportunities for Residents to practice arthroscopy and open surgical skills outside of the patient care setting throughout the year.
  • Mentored Research and Quality Improvement Projects – The Resident will obtain firsthand and mentored experience with conducting Research in the specialty fields of Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine and a focused Quality Improvement project.
  • Mentored Clinical and Surgical Skills Training – The Resident will be taught clinical and surgical skills such as radiologic imaging interpretation, wound closure, graft preparation, etc. throughout the Residency year.
