The American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) has selected Dr. Obinna Nnedu to serve as a new member of the Infectious Disease Certification and Traditional Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Item-Writing Task Force.

ABIM established Item-Writing Task Forces to provide physicians new, more flexible assessment options. In his capacity, Dr. Nnedu will be responsible for developing a new longitudinal pathway for MOC. This includes writing the test questions that lead to board certification upon satisfactory completion of a core residency in internal medicine and/or completion of a fellowship in infectious disease.

Dr. Nnedu joined the Ochsner department of Infectious Disease in April 2013. In July 2015, he was named Program Director of the Infectious Disease Fellowship. Dr. Nnedu is also a Senior Physician at Ochsner and directs the travel clinic. He is passionate about tropical medicine, global health, travel medicine, and medical education. He organizes the monthly Global Health Conference at Ochsner where invited speakers from around the world discuss their global health work.

Dr. Nnedu will serve a two-year term with ABIM beginning in January of 2022.
