Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program

The Radiology Residency at Ochsner is a categorical 5-year program which accepts 6 DR residents per year. Our residents perform a rotating internship at Ochsner which includes 2 months of radiology, followed by 4 years of residency at the Ochsner Medical Center (OMC). A main strength of our program includes a high volume of case material over a broad range of primary and specialized tertiary care pathology.

Motivated residents can receive extensive procedural experience in our busy tertiary level IR section. We have an ESIR pathway so residents interested in pursuing IR will be well-prepared for an advanced 2nd year position in an independent IR program. We also offer one Integrated IR position per year. Ochsner graduates are well trained and highly capable as they enter either fellowship or practice. Approximately 90% of our graduates have entered competitive fellowships across the country.

The department faculty in the New Orleans area includes over 50 radiologists and 3 physicists. Residents typically receive one didactic lecture per day, and there are numerous multispecialty conferences each week in which residents present and participate. Ochsner is continuing to expand our tertiary care ICU tower, outpatient diagnostic centers, and pediatric services. Our subspecialty attending staff is increasing with additional interventional and pediatric radiologists. The Radiology Department has very collegial working and teaching relationships with our many Clinical Centers of Excellence throughout the institution.

All residency training is performed at our main campus, OMC, located in the suburbs of New Orleans, one of the most unique and exciting cities in the United States. Ochsner is one of the largest multispecialty clinics in the nation, with over 4,600 employed and affiliated physicians in over 90 subspecialties. OMC is a leading tertiary care center in the South, at the heart of a much larger Ochsner Medical System which includes 47 hospitals and over 300 health and urgent care centers in the Gulf South. All hospitals are seamlessly integrated using PACS and EPIC medical record system. Ochsner’s transplant surgery department is frequently ranked first in the nation for value and quality.
