Diagnostic Radiology Residency
The Radiology Residency at Ochsner is a categorical 5-year program which accepts 6 residents per year. Our residents perform a rotating internship at Ochsner which includes 2 months of radiology, followed by 4 years of residency at the Ochsner Medical Center (OMC). A main strength of our program includes a high volume of case material over a broad range of primary and specialized tertiary care pathology. Residents also receive extensive procedural experience in our busy tertiary level IR section. We have an ESIR pathway so residents interested in pursuing IR will be well-prepared for an advanced 2nd year position in an independent IR program. Ochsner graduates are well trained and highly capable as they enter either fellowship or practice. Approximately 90% of our graduates have entered competitive fellowships across the country.
The department faculty in the New Orleans area includes over 40 radiologists and 4 physicists. Residents receive at least one didactic lecture per day, and there are numerous multispecialty conferences each week. Ochsner is investing heavily in the main campus to keep up with our rapid expansion, which includes 6 new MRI scanners, a completely renovated interventional department, and a new outpatient imaging center. The Radiology Department has very collegial working and teaching relationships with other key departments, especially transplant surgery, neurosciences, oncology, general Surgery, breast surgery, and orthopedics.
All residency training is performed at our main campus, OMC, located in the suburbs of New Orleans approximately 6 miles from downtown. Ochsner is one of the largest multispecialty clinics in the nation, employing over 1,200 group practice physicians in over 80 subspecialties. OMC is a leading tertiary care center in the South, at the heart of a much larger Ochsner Medical System which consists of 10 hospitals, over 20 affiliated hospitals, and over 45 satellite centers across Louisiana. All hospitals are seamlessly integrated using PACS and EPIC medical record system. Ochsner is nationally ranked by U.S. News & World Report in multiple subspecialties placing us among the top hospitals in the country. Ochsner’s transplant surgery department is ranked first.
We in the Ochsner Department of Radiology look forward to a very exciting future with continued high level of residency education.
