The Department of Infectious Diseases at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, is offering a one-month clinical rotation with the Transplant and Immunocompromised Host consultation service. Services are provided for solid-organ transplant recipients (liver, kidney and kidney-pancreas, heart, and lung), as well as hematopoietic stem cell transplant recipients and patients with hematologic malignancies.

Though the rotation primarily focuses on the inpatient consultation service, there are also opportunities to participate in multidisciplinary donor and candidate evaluation processes. This month also includes participation in Clinical Microbiology Rounds, ID Case Conference, New Orleans Citywide conference, and involvement in medical student and house staff education.

The goal of this rotation is to offer diverse clinical exposure and unique educational opportunities specific to these populations and is available to ID fellows who have completed their first year of fellowship in an ACGME-accredited training program.

Past trainee rotation visitors include physicians from: Hospital de Curry Cabral, Portugal; The University of The West Indies, Jamaica; Fundación Cardioinfantil, Colombia; Cayetano Heredia University, Peru; Tulane University; Hospital Garcia de Orta, EPE, Portugal; Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland – Bahrain.

Ochsner Medical Center is one of the nation's largest abdominal organ transplant program by volume, performing 120 liver transplants and 200 kidney and kidney-pancreas transplants in 2023. In addition to the unique patient care experience at Ochsner Medical Center, the city of New Orleans offers world renowned cultural attractions.
