(Ochsner Medical Center – NRMP Match Number: 1966416C0)

Our ACGME-accredited Integrated Interventional Radiology Residency offers one categorical position annually in a six-year program, which includes a dedicated surgical internship year.

During the PGY-1 year, residents complete rotations across a broad range of surgical subspecialties, along with two months in Radiology. The radiology rotations include both diagnostic and interventional experiences, providing a solid introduction that prepares residents to transition seamlessly into the department on July 1.

From R1 through R3, integrated interventional radiology residents train alongside their diagnostic radiology co-residents, building a strong foundation in diagnostic imaging. In addition to core diagnostic radiology rotations, residents participate in focused interventional radiology rotations and clinical experiences in areas such as hepatology and surgical intensive care (SICU). These clinical rotations are designed to enhance residents’ patient management and decision-making skills.

Senior years emphasize advanced training in interventional radiology. Residents rotate through high-acuity clinical services including interventional cardiology and vascular surgery. These rotations provide both hands-on operative experience and active involvement in the longitudinal clinical care of patients.

Training takes place at Ochsner Medical Center, a transplant-accredited tertiary care institution currently expanding into a Level I trauma center and pediatric hospital. Residents are exposed to the full spectrum of interventional radiology procedures, including:

  • Interventional oncology
  • Vascular and nonvascular interventions (e.g., angiography, embolization)
  • Dialysis access management
  • Trauma and critical care interventions
  • Biliary, genitourinary, and post-transplant procedures
  • Lymphatic and portal venous interventions
  • Prostatic artery and uterine fibroid embolizations (PAE/UFE)
  • Vascular malformation treatment
  • Pediatric interventional procedures
  • Venous sampling and complex venous access

Residents are actively engaged in multidisciplinary conferences and research initiatives, fostering a comprehensive, patient-centered approach to interventional radiology.
