The Ochsner Clinical Simulation and Patient Safety Center opened in late 2017. Offering the most current technology to improve patient safety through the training of all practicing clinicians and students and residents. The high-fidelity human patient simulators mimic physiologic functions of a real patient, and allow learners to acquire and practice clinical skills in a safe, non-judgmental environment.

What is Simulation?

Simulation is the imitation or representation of one act or system by another. Healthcare simulations can be said to have four main purposes – education, assessment, research, and health system integration in facilitating patient safety. –Society for Simulation in Healthcare

How is it used?

Learners interact with the manikins just as they would with an actual patient, asking questions, performing a physical examination, and performing a myriad of medical procedures on the ‘patient’. The scenarios take place in any setting the learners would normally interact with a patient: an emergency department, the OR, a patient room or a doctor’s office.
