The purpose of the Ochsner Archives is to acquire, arrange, describe, and preserve the historically significant records of Ochsner Health and to make these materials available to authorized researchers.

Although traditional institutional archives accept only photographic images and written materials, the Ochsner Archives also collects artifacts that help to complete the historical picture of the institution. Types of artifacts that are frequently considered include:
