Ochsner is committed to a clinically-integrated research program with the ultimate goal of improving the health and wellness of our patients and communities. And as the largest academic medical center in Louisiana, we are training the next generation of healthcare professionals to be leaders who can meet evolving healthcare challenges.
Thank you for your interest in Ochsner for a preceptor or practicum educational experience.
An active academic affiliation agreement with Ochsner and an active RN license for the state in which the clinical experience will take place or a compact license is required of all nursing students. If you are a student in a program that will yield additional licensure, such as an APRN, your program must have program approval to offer clinical educational experience with the Louisiana State Board of Nursing (LSBN). Programs approved for clinical experience in Louisiana can be found on the LSBN website.
If you are seeking an educational opportunity in Mississippi, the same applies but with an active RN Mississippi license.
Please note that we are committed to the professional development of our employees and do prioritize Ochsner employees as well as highly rated graduate programs locally and across the nation.
You should not call Ochsner providers or their offices.
Graduate Nursing Student Applications are currently closed. Student rotation request may be submitted in InPlace starting Nov. 1st by the Academic Institutions. Registration and Training sessions will be posted in October. Students are not able to access the InPlace Platform.
Spring 2024 rotation matches will be communicated to the student and university by mid November 2023.
We appreciate your patience during this transition period.
We review applications periodically throughout the year, and we assess our APP placement opportunities regularly. See the following table for the specific deadlines and clinical rotation periods.
You should submit your application at least four to six months in advance of the rotation. Submitting a request does not guarantee placement. Email your complete application to appstudents@ochsner.org
Late applications or forms will not be accepted. Any outstanding forms past the due date will cause you to forfeit your Ochsner preceptor.
New forms are required each semester. An application and datasheet is required for each preceptor. The attestation should be signed and submitted by a school official, NOT the student. Please download and save the forms using the format Name. Form. Semester Year.pdf. For example the application would be JohnDoe.application.spring2019.pdf.
Accepted students will be required to review these links:
and provide the following documents:
Submit these required forms to appstudents@ochsner.org no later than the date from the table related to your requested clinical rotation period. Late forms will not be accepted. Any outstanding forms past the due date will cause you to forfeit your placement. New forms are required each semester.
Attestations must be filled completely and returned by the appropriate school official. Attestations returned by the student, or if incomplete, will not be accepted. The attestation is a form validating the following items. If your school does not require any of the items, it is the student’s responsibility to provide the information to your school official.
All information requests must come through System Nursing Professional Development/ Nursing Academics.
Students are NOT to directly contact Ochsner Health faculty and administrative staff in an attempt to arrange clinical training experiences. System Nursing Professional Development and Nursing Academics is responsible for scheduling graduate nursing student requests. ALL students must follow established guidelines and procedures without exceptions.
