This course is an introduction to clinical anesthesia. Students will be taught the basic principles of perioperative care of surgical patients and will apply that knowledge in a clinical setting.
Under direct supervision, the student participates in the anesthetic management of surgical patients. The student learns and performs intravenous cannulation, respiratory and circulatory assessment, bag and mask ventilation, and endotracheal intubation. The student also participates in pre- and post-anesthesia evaluations of patients, and attends the didactic activities of the department.
The student will also get exposure to the different sub-specialties of anesthesia; such as cardiac, pediatric, obstetric, regional and neuroanesthesia.
Method of Evaluation
Evaluation by staff anesthesiologists is based on performance in the operating room; participation in didactics and on a formal presentation to be given by all students.
