Susan Nelson, MD, Senior Lecturer with The University of Queensland Medical School has been selected by the American Medical Association as one of the recipients of the 2023 AMA Inspiration Award.
The annual award recognizes physicians who have contributed to the achievements of women in the medical profession.
Dr. Nelson assists in The University of Queensland Ochsner Doctor of Medicine (MD) program Medicine in Society rotation as well as serve as a resource in the development of the future ACGME-accredited hospice and palliative care fellowship programs for Graduate Medical Education.
“Dr. Nelson is an advocate and mentor to many female junior faculty members and goes out of her way to provide professional and personal growth opportunities. She has changed the way that all of us practice medicine at Ochsner including medical students, residents and attendings,” said Kathy Jo Carstarphen, MD, clerkship director for the UQ-Ochsner Medicine in Society rotation.
The AMA Inspiration Award honors leadership, ongoing dedication to mentorship, and enhancing the professional lives of women physicians and advancing equity in medicine. Dr. Nelson will be acknowledged during Women in Medicine Month during September on the AMA website and social media channels.
