Staff physicians of the Ochsner Department of Anesthesiology constitute the faculty for the residency program and serve as mentors for professional conduct. Professional conduct includes not only the relationship with patients, but also the relationship of a physician with other physicians, with nurses and other hospital employees, with administrators, and with the community as represented by law making bodies. The faculty's clinical orientation makes them appropriate role models.
Many Ochsner anesthesiologists are subspecialty fellowship trained and have multiple board certifications. Their subspecialty training includes pediatrics, pain, critical care (including flight care), obstetric, regional and cardiac anesthesia obtained at nationally recognized institutions. Members of the department hold leadership positions in the Louisiana Society of Anesthesiologists, the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the Society of Education in Anesthesia, the Foundation for Anesthesiology Education and Research, and the Society of Cardiac Anesthesiology.
