Commitment to Education - Emergency Medicine Residency Program

I love Emergency Medicine because we have the opportunity to care for everyone who comes in our doors on their worst day and be their advocate in healing.

Interest: Point-of-care ultrasound and medical education. I am the director of the Division of Emergency Ultrasound and am eager to share ultrasound with whoever will listen to me. Outside of the emergency department, I enjoy running and biking under the New Orleans tree canopy.

I love EM because of the pace, cast of characters who tend to work in EDs, and the unlikely mix of patients.

My interest is in palliative medicine and improving communication between providers and patients living with serious illnesses.

I love emergency medicine because you never know what is going to stroll through the doors! It keeps me on my toes!

I chose toxicology as a subspecialty because I always thought they were the most interesting doctors in the hospital - and full of random factoids. Ask me about some historical toxicology event - and I'll give you a story! I am very interested in education, addiction medicine and perinatal toxicology. I am looking forward to starting a bedside toxicology consulting service with my colleagues and teaching the residents all they need to know about toxicology!

I love Emergency Medicine because it is fast paced, procedure-oriented, and offers the privilege of caring for many acutely ill patients in his/her time of need.

My interests are in quality, patient safety, administration, and operations.

I love Emergency Medicine for many reasons, but the top three are: Allows me to make an immediate difference in many patients lives on a daily basis, often the only place patients and families can come to for medical help. We are the first to see the patient – we may be the only doc to truly see the “undifferentiated patient” i.e. analogous to the marines of the medical world –“ the first in”. Most importantly - You can have a life outside of work!

When I first went into medicine as a Surgeon, my long-term career goal always leaned heavily towards education; and now that I have found my calling in Emergency Medicine, that goal has not changed at all. I have always had a passion for education, especially UME; therefore, I plan to focus my career on helping medical students navigate career choices with emphasis towards emergency medicine. I am currently working to develop innovative teaching methods and incorporate hands -on skills to prepare medical students for a career in Emergency Medicine.

I love emergency medicine because it gives me the opportunity to treat a wide variety of patients and disease states, and every day is different!

In addition to emergency medicine I am a medical toxicologist with a particular interest in drugs of abuse and the use of antidotes. Medical toxicology is a fascinating mix of clinical medicine, pharmacology, zoology, botany, chemistry, and forensic science! It has allowed me to investigate interesting topics and speak to others around the world.

Why I love emergency medicine: I love working in a fast paced, clinically varied environment while being of service to folks in their time of need.

My focus is on medical education. I really enjoy seeing our residents grow into superstar docs, and accompanying them through that journey. I'm also interested in fields of medical quality and medical errors. I organize our patient safety conferences for the department and have a developing interest in the medical legal aspect of emergency medicine, specifically medical malpractice.
