Ochsner Health is a system that delivers health to the people of Louisiana, Mississippi and the Gulf South with a mission to Serve, Heal, Lead, Educate and Innovate.

Ochsner Emergency Medicine offers residents the educational opportunities of an academic medical center with the personal connection and community feel of a close-knit residency. Training in New Orleans means learning in a city defined by resilience, diversity, creativity and an unmistakable sense of community.
We believe that strong professional relationships, open communication and time together outside the Emergency Department are essential parts of residency education. Purposeful time is protected throughout the year for residents and faculty to connect, reflect and strengthen the culture of the program.
Our Annual Program Evaluation Workshop allows residents to provide direct feedback and participate in developing actionable improvements to the curriculum and resident experience. The workshop is paired with our annual residency retreat and includes dedicated time for community-building.
Program traditions have included a resident and faculty ramen dinner and a New Orleans crawfish boil.
Residents also connect through virtual and in-person social events, Journal Club, Program Director Hour, T3 Series sessions and other gatherings throughout the academic year.
These shared experiences help create a residency in which residents know one another, feel comfortable bringing forward ideas and concerns, and have a meaningful voice in shaping the program.

New Orleans is a strong city full of historical significance and wonderful culture. It has persevered through severe tragedy and rebuilt with spirits set high while maintaining the unique factors that have made New Orleans a home for so many. Life in New Orleans is like nowhere else. It is a world all its own. The art, architecture, streetcar rides, festivals, events, history, and food is most definitely like none-other. There is always somewhere to go, something to do, and something amazing to eat. Your days can be planned with red beans & rice on Mondays, fish on Fridays, king cake (during Mardi Gras season of course), along with crawfish, snowballs, po-boys, and beignets all day every day (especially if they’re from Café Du Monde). You’re bound to find a favorite and you’ll never be able to eat at every single restaurant that New Orleans has to offer because there are so many.

You can experience New Orleans like a local (since you’re officially one as a Resident) and visit here to find some fun things to do, more places to eat, drink, etc.
Some of our favorites (and there are many) we recommend are below, but obviously there are countless things for you to explore.
