The mission of the maternal fetal medicine fellowship program at Ochsner Health is to train physicians to deliver the highest quality clinical care in all areas of perinatal medicine including high risk obstetrics, prenatal genetics, and maternal medical complications. Our program provides a balance of inpatient care, outpatient clinic, ultrasound, and training in clinical research so that upon completion of the 3-year fellowship program, graduates will be well prepared for any avenue of clinical or academic practice they choose.

Application Information

The MFM fellowship program is approved for one fellowship position per year. Applications for the first- year position for July 2025 will be accepted until the end of April, 2024 based on the deadlines set by the Society for Maternal Fetal Medicine through the Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS). All of the following must be received prior to consideration of an application for interview:

  • A completed application
  • Medical School Transcript
  • USMLE board scores
  • At least three letters of recommendation, one of which should be from residency program director
  • Personal statement
  • Photo

Virtual Interviews will be scheduled for August of 2024. Email notifications of invitation for interviews will be sent on the single invitation day in mid-May 2024 as determined by the SMFM.

The training program is divided into 10 months of outpatient maternal fetal medicine, 7 months of inpatient maternal fetal medicine, 1 month in the intensive care unit, 12 months of research, and 6 months of electives. Two months of genetics training are included in the outpatient maternal fetal medicine and elective blocks.
