Philosophy

The goal of our program is to train qualified candidates to be excellent abdominal transplant surgeons. Our high-volume transplant program continues to grow and innovate every year.

History

Ochsner performed Louisiana’s first liver transplant in 1975, and since this time more than 8,000 abdominal organ transplants have been performed. Our fellowship program was started in 2016, successfully training both domestic and international surgeons. All of our graduates are currently working as transplant surgeons.

Our program was the highest volume liver transplant program in the US from 2012-2019. You will be taught by experienced board certified staff who have completed training programs including University of Chicago, Mayo Clinic, Hong Kong, University of Wisconsin, University of Alabama, University of Southern California, and UCLA.
