Scholarly activity is a core expectation with fellows supported to engage in clinical research and quality improvement initiatives. The programs' extensive clinical volume and outcomes provide abundant opportunities to study outcomes, utilization strategies, immunosuppression, and organ preservation. Additionally, we are involved in numerous multicenter clinical trials.

Ochsner is involved in both primary and collaborative basic science research. Areas of special interest include hepatocellular carcinoma staging and treatment, surgical complexity scoring, DCD transplant and retransplantation.

Most of our fellows have completed and presented research projects concurrently with the fellowship.
