Our training program provides extensive clinical experience in liver transplantation and hepatology, both in the Ochsner Clinic's outpatient setting and the Ochsner Hospital's inpatient setting. The 12-month fellowship is divided into inpatient and outpatient programs with electives. Twenty working days are equivalent to vacation time. Transplant Hepatology is primarily consulting service without any after hours call responsibilities. Faculty in hepatology and/or transplantation oversee every experience, with increasing autonomy as proficiency rises. Elective rotations on Ochsner Health's interventional radiology, palliative care, and liver pathology programs provide a significant amount of experience.

This includes supervising the training of students and internal medicine house officers rotating on the hepatology. This service provides expertise in hepatology to other medical and surgical services.

Held under the supervision of a senior staff member, the intent is to develop a population of patients for whom they will serve as a primary provider of hepatology and transplant services.

Fellow participates in multiple, weekly radiology, pathology conferences & lectures. The fellow attends Selection Committee Meetings and participate in the liver transplant candidate selection and workup process.
