Right in the heart of the city, Mid-City is a charming neighborhood that even boasts its own Mardis Gras Krewe.

Best Way to Spend a Day - Kayak on Bayou St. John, listen to some New Orleans Originals at Chickie Wah Wah or join a guided tour of the Cypress Grove or Greenwood above ground cemeteries.
Why I Chose Here - I like Mid-City because it’s convenient to downtown and uptown while still being a lot more affordable than uptown. It is an up and coming neighborhood with several restaurants and bars, as well as lots of festivals throughout the year. – PGY2
Central Business District/Warehouse District
Offering all of benefits of bustling downtown life, with a flair of New Orleans charm, the CBD is the perfect spot for high-rise apartments and condominiums.

Best Eats - Willa Jean on O’Keefe, Borgne on Loyola, Lüke on St. Charles
Best Way to Spend a Day - Grab the morning special at Willa Jean before heading over to the National World War II Museum, or catch the Saints in the Superdome for an NFL experience like no other.
Why I Chose Here - I moved from D.C. and wanted a similar urban city environment. I enjoy the security of having a 24 hour front desk receptionist. There is a Rouse’s that’s convenient for grocery shopping, and the Riverwalk and Shops on Canal Street are all in walking distance. – PGY1
Uptown/Carrollton
Spanning from the Garden District to Ochsner’s Main Campus, this region is the perfect place to catch some of New Orleans beautiful 19th Century homes or during Mardis Gras season catch one of the many parades which run through these neighborhoods.
Commute - 5-10 minutes
Best Eats - Kenton’s on Magazine, Patois on Laurel
Best Way to Spend a Day - Grab brunch at one of the many local spots before spending the day browsing the shops on Magazine Street or head over to Audubon Park to see the zoo, golf course or an afternoon at The Fly.
Why I Chose Here - I picked here because of the convenience of getting to work while being close to Magazine street and Audubon Park. There is a Whole Foods nearby and it’s also one of the safer areas to live. – PGY2
Garden District
Bordered by the CBD to the east, the Garden District stretches almost to Louisiana Ave to the West. This neighborhood is a system of parks, gardens and canals featuring some of New Orleans most traditional Greek Revival homes.
Commute - 15-20 minutes
Best Eats - Pho Orchid, Blind Pelican, and Delmonico on St. Charles
Best Way to Spend a Day - Join a tour group of the many traditional homes in the area or the Julia Street Art Walk on the first Saturday of every month where several art galleries in the area host free openings.
Why I Chose Here - My decision for living was based on the fact that I wanted to be close to the city but also a main road away from the hospital. The perks of my location is I have the St Charles street car I can use PRN, also obviously Mardis Gras is lots of fun. – PGY2
Lakeview
Named for Lake Ponchartrain which borders it to the North, the Lakeview neighborhood is a quiet suburban hideaway.
Commute - 15 minutes without traffic, up to 30 minutes with traffic
Best Eats - Cava on Harrison, The Velvet Cactus on Argonne, or The Blue Crab on the Lakefront
Best Way to Spend a Day - Grab breakfast at District Donuts or Morning Call and spend a day in City Park, one of the oldest parks in the country that contains an 18-hole golf course, an amusement park, the New Orleans Museum of Art and the Botanical Gardens.
Why I Chose Here - Lakeview has all the quiet life of the suburbs while still being able to get anywhere in New Orleans in about 15minutes. It is a very safe area, great for families and still has some of that unique New Orleans experience. – PGY2
River Ridge/Harahan
Just to the West of Ochsner in Jefferson Parish, this area affords all the peace and quiet of suburban life with the city only a short trip away.
Commute - 15 – 20 minutes
Best Eats - City Greens on Citrus, My Sister’s Table on Jefferson Highway
Why I Chose Here - River Ridge is one of the safest places in NOLA. I love the fact that there is no traffic to struggle through and there are a lot of young families in the area. – PGY2
