No, if you are an Ochsner Physician Scholar you may match into any ACGME-accredited residency through the National Resident Matching Program anywhere in the United States of America. The Ochsner Physician Scholars program requires you to return to practice with Ochsner Health after successfully completing residency to complete the required five-years of employment.
The Ochsner Physician Scholars Program requires that recipients complete an ACGME-accredited residency program in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine Primary Care, Internal Medicine Pediatrics (dual certification) or Psychiatry and then recipients will return to Ochsner Health for five years of employment in recipient specialty. Each recipient is required to enter into a contractual agreement called the Ochsner Physician Scholars Retention Agreement with Ochsner Health whereby the recipient agrees to practice in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine Primary Care, Internal Medicine Pediatrics Primary Care (dual certification) or Psychiatry for five (5) years at an Ochsner Health facility.
If you do not successfully match into an ACGME-accredited residency position you will be required to repay the full amount awarded plus an interest rate of 5.5% on the total owed in accordance with the Ochsner Physician Scholars Retention Agreement.

Your participation in the Ochsner Physician Scholars program does not prohibit other employment; however, upon hire by Ochsner Health, the terms and conditions of employment (including external work) are governed by the Physician Employment Agreement (PEA) and should be discussed with Ochsner Health at the time of hire.
