Eligibility

  • Accepted to the LSU Health Shreveport School of Medicine
  • Maintain good academic and disciplinary standing:
    • MCAT Score
    • Achieved minimum GPA of 3.0 or above in previous degree
    • Maintained minimum GPA of 3.0 or above while in medical school.
  • Graduated from a Louisiana High School.
  • Priority consideration will be given to applicants from a diverse or underrepresented population as defined by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC): Those racial and ethnic populations that are underrepresented in the medical profession relative to their numbers in the general population.
  • Commitment to Family Medicine, Internal Medicine Primary Care, Internal Medicine Pediatrics, Primary Care (dual certification), Neurology, or Psychiatry.
  • Understand that the execution of an Ochsner Physician Scholar Retention Agreements is required which secures the Scholar’s Commitment to return to Ochsner Health for full-time employment for a minimum of five (5) years after completion of residency.
  • Must submit completed application and all required documents no later than March 1.
  • Finalists will be interviewed by members of the Ochsner Physician Scholars selection committee.
  • While enrolled in medical school:
    • Successfully pass USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 CK examinations on the first attempt and submit documentation as received.
    • Pass all courses and rotations.
    • Have not failed or been required to repeat any rotations or courses during medical school.
    • No academic gaps: approved leave of absences will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

  • Enrolled in the LSU Health Shreveport School of Medicine as a current Year 3 medical student and plans to match into Family Medicine, Internal Medicine Primary Care, Internal Medicine Pediatrics Primary Care (dual certification), Neurology, or Psychiatry in the 2025 NRMP Match.
  • Be in good academic standing.
    • Successfully pass USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 CK examinations on the first attempt and submit documentation as received.
    • Passed all courses and rotations.
    • Has not failed or been required to repeat any rotations or courses during medical school enrollment.
    • No academic gaps: approved leave of absences will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

* If Year 4 applicant has not yet successful passed the USMLE Step 2 CK on the first attempt, documentation may be submitted later in Year 4 prior to entering the NRMP Match.
