Ochsner Medical Library resources are available to users with a current, valid email address in the Ochsner Active Directory (viewable on Ochsner computers as the Global Address Book in Microsoft Outlook). Most of our online resources authenticate users via the Active Directory using the Ochsner Single Sign-On process and will not work unless the user is listed there.

The Medical Library has no control over the Ochsner Active Directory. Contact Ochsner Information Services (IS) at 504-842-3610 with any questions.

LibKey Nomad

The LibKey Nomad browser extension inserts clickable links into many online platforms, including PubMed, Clinical Key, Science Direct, Up To Date, and Wikipedia. These links integrate with Ochsner’s proxy server to bypass paywalls, ensuring full access to subscribed content. The extension also integrates with our document delivery service (ILLiad) to streamline requests for non-subscribed content. Nomad is installed by default on Ochsner-issued computers. To add this free extension to a personal computer or device, install it from here:

https://thirdiron.com/downloadnomad/

Then select “Ochsner Medical Library” as your organization.

ILLiad

ILLiad is the Medical Library’s document delivery and interlibrary loan service for requesting articles and books not held in the library collection. ILLiad accounts are tied to the user’s Ochsner account – if ILLiad asks for a username and password, use your Ochsner login credentials. ILLiad works with the LibKey Nomad browser extension.

Clicking a Nomad link to a non-subscribed article directs the user to a page with a “Request Item with ILLiad” button. Clicking that button takes the user to an online form preloaded with the relevant citation information. Click “Submit,” and the library will obtain the requested item. Most requests for articles are completed within 24 hours.

Users are notified by email when the requested item is available. ILLiad is most conveniently used in tandem with LibKey Nomad. Requests can also be submitted directly in ILLiad:

PubMed

A PubMed user account (“My NCBI”) enables several useful features in PubMed. Register for an account here:

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/account/register

To set Ochsner as one of your PubMed libraries, go to your “My NCBI” account dashboard and click “NCBI Site Preferences,” then “Outside Tool,” then find and select Ochsner Medical Library.

UpToDate

UpToDate is available on all Ochsner computers, and any computer connected to the Ochsner network, including VPN. Personal UpToDate user accounts created on an Ochsner computer using your Ochsner email address are automatically granted 30 days of roaming access. Logging in to that account enables UpToDate access on any device from any location:

https://www.uptodate.com/login-register

UpToDate requires monthly authentication to renew roaming access. To maintain unrestricted access, log in to your personal UTD account once a month on an Ochsner-connected computer.

Overdrive Audiobooks

The Medical Library offers a collection of audiobooks on subjects relevant to medicine and health care:

https://ochsner.overdrive.com/

Sign in with your Ochsner username and password to create an account (you may not have to sign in if you are already signed in to the Ochsner network with your Ochsner login credentials).

Audiobooks may be listened to online via a web browser or by using the OverDrive “Libby” mobile app:

Print Books Catalog

Users can register for an account in the Medical Library’s online catalog of print books, enabling books to be placed on hold; renewal of books already checked out; and other options.

To set up an account, go to the “Ochsner Medical Library Print Holdings Catalog” home page:

https://oml-ind.daphnis.opalsinfo.net/bin/home and click “Register account.”

In the “User ID/Barcode field,” enter your Ochsner Employee ID or Student ID and click “OK.”  Verify your name and email address and click “Next” if correct. Enter a username and password for your account and click OK (this should complete your registration).

Note: The Print Books Online Catalog is one of our few resources not linked to your Active Directory account. New Ochsner employees and students may not yet be recognized in the Online Catalog database. If not, contact the Medical Library and we will manually set up a user account for you.
