To provide medical students with an immersive experience with interventional radiology. Students will become familiar with radiology and particularly interventional radiology with a mostly clinical experience.
Each student will rotate on a very busy interventional radiology service with a variety of procedures. Imaging, pathophysiology and mechanical equipment will be reviewed and explained. Students should leave the rotation with a significantly wider and deeper understanding of Interventional Radiology. The rotation will be weekdays only. No nights, holidays, or weekends. This rotation should be beneficial for those desiring a career in interventional radiology, radiology, or those just looking to gain more understanding of the field.

Electives are approved with a maximum of one 4-week elective rotations and are based on academic merit and availability. Because the selection process is highly competitive, we ask that students please allow a minimum of 8 weeks for proper approval.
Because of our increasing number of affiliate partnerships and the high demand for educational rotations at Ochsner, opportunities for visiting students from nonaffiliated schools may be limited.
Visiting students are responsible for locating and securing their own transportation, housing, and meals during the elective rotation(s).
We recommend that final housing and travel arrangements are deferred until enrollment has been confirmed in the event that we are unable to accommodate a specific course request.
All students must upload a letter of interest to their VSLO application explaining why they are interested in an elective rotation at Ochsner.

Students are NOT to directly contact Ochsner Health faculty and administrative staff in an attempt to arrange clinical/research experiences. The GME Office is responsible for scheduling ALL elective requests. All students must follow the established guidelines and procedures without exception.
