  • We offer:
    • Six categorical positions. All residents perform a rotating internship at Ochsner which includes 2 months of radiology.
    • One Integrated IR position with a rotating surgical internship. This internship also includes 2 months of radiology.
  • We reimburse conference and travel expenses for residents who present scholarly work at national meetings.
  • Non-accredited Fellowships are offered in MRI/MSK, Body Imaging, Interventional Neuroradiology and Breast Imaging. Please contact Kathy Dixon at kdixon@ochsner.org for more information andd application instructions.

Program Signaling

To enable a holistic review of applicants who are most interested in our program, Ochsner Diagnostic Radiology will participate in Program Signaling for the 2025 ERAS Application Season. Per AAMC guidelines, applicants to Diagnostic Radiology are allowed 6 gold and 6 silver signals.

Candidates must have one of the following qualifications to be eligible for appointment.

  • Graduate from an accredited medical school in the United States or Canada within the past 5 years.
  • Graduate from an accredited college of osteopathic medicine in the United States within the past 5 years.
  • Graduates of schools outside of the United States or Canada who have graduated within the past 5 years must meet all of the following qualifications:
    • Must have a currently valid ECFMG certificate.
    • Must meet medical licensing requirements as defined by the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners.
    • Prefer applicant to have at least one year of clinical experience in the United States.
    • Must hold a J-1 visa, or Permanent Residency in the United States.

Does the Ochsner Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program participate in the Match?

Yes, applications must be submitted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).

Does the Ochsner Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program participate in Program Signaling?

Do candidates have to participate in the NRMP Match to enter this program?

Yes, the only way that one can enter the Ochsner Diagnostic Radiology program is to apply through ERAS and participate in the Match.

How many positions does the Ochsner Diagnostic Radiology program offer?

This interview cycle we will offer 6 categorical PG1 positions to start July 1, 2025. We will also offer one PG1 categorical Integrated IR position to start July 1, 2025.

Application deadline is November 15, 2024. Applications will be reviewed beginning September 25, 2024, for the 2024 - 2025 recruitment season. Interviews will be held October 2024 through January 2025. Applications received after November 15, 2024 may be considered if the applicant contacts the program manager directly. Do candidates need to have taken Step 2 in order to apply to the program?

Yes. We prefer to have Step 2 scores available when evaluating applications.

Applicants should pass Step 1 on the first attempt.

We do not have a cut-off Step 2 score, although most have at least average scores and pass on the first try. While scores are considered, we always look at the entire application in a holistic manner. Other attributes can overcome low scores.

Yes, we are a categorical program and provide the clinical year of training which consists of internal medicine, one month of ICU and 2 months of radiology. Ochsner Internal Medicine holds 5 spots for our program. A separate interview is not required. The clinical year is an ACGME requirement for all diagnostic radiology residency training programs.

No. However, you must meet all ECFMG requirements PRIOR to the start of your residency on July 1.

Ochsner accepts J-1 visas only.

Interviews for the 2024 - 2025 interview season will be held virtually per AAMC recommendation. Interviews will be conducted via Zoom and will include a welcome and overview from our Program Director. You will have 5 interviews which include the Program Director, one resident, and 3 staff radiologists. Interviews will be approximately 15 minutes in length. During breaks between interviews, our residents will be available to answer questions. A Virtual Meet & Greet with the Ochsner Diagnostic Radiology residents will be held the evening before each interview day. All applicants are invited and encouraged to attend.
