Gassan Chaiban MD - Program Director
Dr. Chaiban received his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine, in the West Indies. He completed his Anesthesiology residency at University of Massachusetts Medical School, Worcester, MA. He then went to complete his fellowship in Pain Management at the University of Toledo Medical Center, Toledo, OH. Dr. Chaiban practices at Ochsner Baptist in the Pain Management Clinic and the Back and Spine Center. He has been on staff with Ochsner since 2013.
Maged Guirguis, MD, serves as the chief system lead of the pain management department at Ochsner health system. He is an Associate Professor for The University of Queensland Ochsner Clinical School where he also serves as the pain/palliative medicine rotation director as well as serving as a Clinical Assistant Professor in Louisiana State University School of Medicine. After completing a residency in internal medicine in his home country. He joined the Cleveland Clinic Foundation for a research fellowship in pain medicine after which he completed his residency in anesthesiology and clinical fellowship in pain management. Dr. Guirguis is triple board certified in anesthesiology, pain medicine and headache management.
Dr. Guirguis published numerous papers and book chapters as well as presented various studies and peer reviewed abstracts on pain medicine at national and international meetings. He serves as a faculty and meeting chairman for the American society of regional anesthesia and pain medicine. Also serves as faculty and member of the pain educational committee for the American society of anesthesiology and in both the research and education committees for the international neuromodulation and North American neuromodulation society. He has a special interest in neuromodulation, headaches management and ultrasound guided interventions for acute and chronic pain.
Dr. Yashar Eshraghi was trained as an anesthesiology resident in the department of anesthesiology at Case Western Reserve University/MetroHealth Medical Center and graduated in 2015. Thereafter, he pursued fellowship program in pain medicine at Cleveland Clinic Foundation, before joining the Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Care at University of California, Irvine as a Clinical Assistant Professor from September of 2016 until June 2018.
He is currently the Medical Director of Pain Research at Division of Pain Management, Ochsner Medical Center. Dr. Yashar Eshraghi is board-certified in anesthesiology, chronic pain and headache management. His expertise is in chronic head and neck pain, chronic back and knee pain; nerve pain, complex regional pain syndrome and vertebral fractures.
A 1988 graduate of University of Cairo, Dr. Eissa completed training in Internal Medicine & Physical medicine & rehabilitation. Board Certified in both PM&R & Pain medicine, he has been in practice with Ochsner since 1998. For over a decade he has been involved with education & training of Louisiana State University PM&R residents & Pain fellows. He offers great expertise in musculoskeletal exam. He is one of the regional experts in Botulinum toxin injections for spasticity, cervical dystonia, and intractable migraine headaches. Office base procedures with or without ultrasound/EMG guidance are offered and include peripheral joints, nerve blocks and other types of injections. Hospital base procedures include Kyphoplasty, spinal cord stimulator trial, interlaminar & transforaminal epidurals at all spinal levels, joint injections, Radiofrequency ablation including cooled, other nerve & sympathetic blocks.
Dr. Wickboldt is a native of Louisiana. He graduated from LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans, LA followed by completion of an Anesthesiology residency and Pain Medicine fellowship at Loma Linda University in Southern California. His work experience includes the practice of organic chemistry toward developing novel targets in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. Dr. Wickboldt currently practices at Ochsner Kenner with a treatment philosophy focused on patient education. He helps patients achieve wellness through physical therapy, diet, home exercise, medication optimization, and interventions. Dr. Wickboldt is a participant in several post-market, clinical research studies examining varied uses of spinal cord stimulation and techniques for measuring clinical outcomes. His other interests include system-wide strategic planning for opioid management. He is board certified in Anesthesiology and board-eligible for Pain Medicine.
Dean Hickman MD (Psychiatry)
Dr. Hickman graduated cum laude with honors in biology and earned his medical degree from Tulane. He completed his psychiatry residency at Ochsner where he served as Chief Resident. He also received the Upjohn Achievement Award for 'Outstanding Psychiatry Resident.' Dr. Hickman is board certified in general psychiatry with added qualifications in addiction psychiatry. He specializes in substance abuse and alcoholism treatment. Dr. Hickman has been on the Ochsner staff since 1994.
Christine Keating MD (PM&R)
Christine M. Keating, MD is a board certified Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation physician. She earned her Medical Degree from Louisiana State University at Shreveport. She completed her residency at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. She is a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Dr. Keating's clinical interests include running relating injuries. Her sports medicine activities include various high school and college team coverage. Dr. Keating has been with Ochsner since September 2006.
Fawad Khan MD (Neurology)
Dr. Khan is the director of The McCasland Family Comprehensive Headache Center at Ochsner Neuroscience Institute. Prior to joining Ochsner Health System he completed a fellowship in clinical neurophysiology and vestibular neurology at University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI. He completed a neurology residency at University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, NC. He received his medical degree from Deccan College of Medical Sciences in Hyderabad, India. Dr. Khan has a strong interest in clinical research and is involved in several clinical studies designed to improve outcomes in headache management. He serves on the Neuroscience Research Board and Therapeutic Innovation & Utilization Council at Ochsner Health System. His clinical interests include refractory headaches, headache and dizziness, BOTOX therapy, infusion therapies for migraines, and headaches in pregnancy.
