The clinical training for the Surgery program occurs at two facilities. The Ochsner Lafayette General site will provide approximately 90% of the resident's experience. Ochsner Health at Lafayette is an integrated healthcare system in Southcentral Louisiana that provides routine and specialty patient care, including a robust Level 2 Trauma Service. During the five-year in-depth learning experience at this location, residents will develop a broad knowledge of general surgery, including endocrinology, plastic surgery, and endoscopy, while developing superior surgical skills due to the vast amount of pathology.

The resident experience also includes rotations at Ochsner Medical Center - New Orleans, including Transplant and Pediatrics. This hospital is located in the suburbs of New Orleans and is world known for its richness in food and entertainment. The transplant rotation is recognized nationally as the #1 liver transplant site. This resident experience will occur during the fourth year, in which a formal solid organ transplant experience will be gained, including operative and critical care management. The pediatric experience will occur both as a junior and senior-level resident, covering all facets of pediatric surgical and critical care by our accomplished Pediatric Staff.
