The Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship at Ochsner Children’s is a one-year, ACGME-accredited program offering advanced, comprehensive training in the perioperative care of infants, children and adolescents. Fellows care for patients across a broad spectrum of ages, acuity levels and surgical complexity while developing the clinical judgment, technical skills and leadership necessary to practice independently as pediatric anesthesiologists.

Clinical experiences span pediatric surgical specialties and include exposure to complex and critically ill children, pediatric cardiac anesthesiology, critical care, pain and regional anesthesia, advanced airway management and care outside of the traditional operating room. Fellows work within a multidisciplinary environment that emphasizes patient safety, family-centered care and progressive responsibility.

This fellowship is being developed during an exciting period of growth for pediatric care at Ochsner. Ochsner Children’s has earned national recognition for pediatric healthcare for 10 consecutive years, and in the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings, its Pediatric Cardiology & Heart Surgery program ranked No. 29 nationally, among the top 30 programs in the country. Ochsner Children’s also earned national U.S. News recognition in pediatric gastroenterology and GI surgery and pediatric orthopedics, reflecting the breadth of specialized pediatric care available to fellows training within the health system.

Upon successful completion of the fellowship and applicable eligibility requirements, graduates will be prepared to pursue subspecialty board certification in Pediatric Anesthesiology through the American Board of Anesthesiology.

Fellows participate in a structured didactic curriculum that complements their hands-on clinical experience through lectures, case-based discussions, conferences, and review of complex pediatric anesthetic cases. Educational activities reinforce clinical decision-making, patient safety, quality improvement, and preparation for the Pediatric Anesthesiology subspecialty board examination.

Fellows are encouraged to participate in scholarly activity throughout the fellowship, including opportunities for research, quality improvement, case reports, educational projects, and presentations. Faculty mentorship supports the development of scholarly interests while promoting evidence-based practice and continued professional growth.
