The Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship at Ochsner Children’s provides a comprehensive educational experience across pediatric surgical, procedural, critical care, and perioperative settings. Fellows build on their core pediatric anesthesiology training through focused experiences in critical care, cardiothoracic anesthesiology, neuroanesthesia, regional anesthesia and acute pain medicine, and non-operating room anesthesia, with opportunities for individualized elective training.

Throughout the fellowship, trainees progressively develop and are assessed on skills essential to pediatric anesthesiology, including pre-anesthetic evaluation and perioperative planning, pediatric airway management, vascular access, regional anesthesia, management of complex pediatric patients, clinical reasoning, situational awareness and crisis management. Training also emphasizes patient safety and quality improvement, effective transitions and coordination of care, evidence-based practice, and communication with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary healthcare team.

Direct faculty teaching, graduated autonomy, simulation, case-based education, and ongoing feedback support fellows as they progress toward independent subspecialty practice.
