The Ochsner Retina and Vitreous Surgery Fellowship Program has trained 30 fellows since its inception in 1984.

Jacob Grodsky, MD

Dr. Grodsky began his retina and vitreous surgery fellowship training at Ochsner in July 2023. A native of the Chicagoland area, Dr. Grodsky is no stranger to New Orleans. He completed his undergraduate degree at Tulane University and attended medical school at Louisiana State University-New Orleans. He returned to the Midwest to complete his internship and ophthalmology residency training at Saint Louis University. As a resident physician, Dr. Grodsky received numerous awards for his excellence in patient care, caring demeanor, and dedication to research. In his final year of training, he served as Chief Resident and won the S. Harrison Jerrold Award for Outstanding Resident. Dr. Grodsky is very excited to be returning to Louisiana to complete his vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at Ochsner. He believes that the program provides a wonderful balance of direct training and autonomy while developing excellent vitreoretinal surgeons and clinicians and providing ample opportunities for research, innovation, and resident education.

"I had an amazing experience during my retina fellowship at Ochsner from 2015-17. Drs. Arend, Mazzulla, and Benevento helped me to develop the surgical and clinical skills needed to succeed in my private practice today. During my time in New Orleans, I was privileged to see a wide spectrum of pathology and participate in a plethora of surgical cases from macular cases all the way to complex retinal detachments. I feel my experience here certainly gave me the foundation to feel comfortable once out on my own! I would wholeheartedly recommend this fellowship to any applicants as they will without a doubt be prepared for life after training wherever it may take them."
