The Sports Medicine curriculum provides access to 2 virtual didactic lectures per week.  Monday afternoon lectures at 5:30pm are sponsored by the Andrews Educational Research Foundation.  Thursday morning lectures at 6:00am are supported by Ochsner Andrews Sports Medicine Institute.  Topics include operative and non-operative management of sports injuries, basic science, imaging interpretation, shoulder and knee biomechanics, environmental factors, concussion/return to play, role of team physician, orthobiologics and much more.

Monthly sports journal club meetings on Tuesday at 6:30pm have fellows and sports orthopaedic resident present relevant and current literature from peer reviewed journals for discussion.  These meetings are held offsite at local restaurant.

Fellows report their research project status at virtual monthly research meeting Wednesday at 6:15am.  Fellows also do virtual case reports every month to faculty. 

Ochsner Sports Medicine Institute has an onsite surgical bioskills lab.  Surgical skills cadaveric labs are held every 6-8 weeks in the bioskills lab which is attended by sports fellows and orthopaedic surgery residents.

The program is designed as a one-on-one mentorship.  Fellows rotate and work under the supervision of 6 sports trained orthopedic surgeons offering a diverse approach to a variety of surgical cases and treatment protocols.
